GAB constantly works with the Georgia Department of Revenue for the revision and simplification of alcoholic beverage advertising regulations, and we pass along this information to you in the form of bulletins and updates. During recent years we have achieved a number of important revisions which freed broadcasters to advertise beverages more often and with fewer restrictions. Check our members only section for the latest regulations governing the advertising of alcoholic beverages.
The GAB Prestige Awards known as the GABBY AWARDS are among the most coveted in the broadcasting industry. Only members of the GAB are eligible for those figures called "Gabby's", which are presented annually at the GAB Convention, following rigorous competition earlier in the year.
Entry forms are mailed in December and are due back in the GAB office in March of the following year.
The GAB endorses Szabo Associates of Atlanta, the nation's
recognized number-one media collection service. Their track record
speaks for itself and numerous members have used this service many
times over.
Contact Szabo Associates of Atlanta at 404/266-2464.
Annual Convention - Our annual
convention is one of the largest state broadcasting meetings in
America and is held each June. The convention features entertainment
for the entire family, food, fun and fellowship, as well as meetings
and programs on the top industry issues of the day. You'll take home
practical ideas that will "up your bottom line" and help you operate
more efficiently
Winter Institute - The Radio-TV
Institute is held each February in conjunction with the Henry Grady
School of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of
Georgia. Programs feature two and on-half days of intensive seminars
and work sessions on broadcasting needs and issues. Sales,
programming, management and other topics highlight each meeting and
it's not "froth and foam"; it's gut-level, hard-hitting idea sessions
that more than pay for the registration fee to attend. Past speakers
have included the cream of the industry, such as Mike Wallace, Keith
Jackson, Connie Chung, John Palmer, Tom Brokaw, and many others.

information.
This is probably the single most important and unique service offered by the GAB to member stations. Since 1981, the GAB has acted as an intermediary between our stations and the Atlanta office of the Federal Communication Commission. This means that if there is a complaint against your station, in most instances, you will hear about it from the GAB instead of the FCC. They turn the complaints over to us to work with you toward a "no fault" resolution of the problem with little or no paperwork.
The GAB offers a member health insurance program with full medical and dental care through The Benefit Company. Call Susan Clark at (404) 233-2200 for full information and a quote. You may choose from traditional health insurance coverage or a PPO Plan (Southcare).
These plans offers good coverage at reasonable rates. Insurance plans for small multiple employer groups is limited in today's market and we are fortunate to have been accepted as part of these outstanding programs.
The GAB, retains two attorneys, one in Washington and one Atlanta,to help us deal with questions of concern to our membership as a whole. These attorneys are available to the GAB office to answer specific questions when answers are of general interest to members. They are also available to help individual members for specific work on a contract basic. Contact James Rawls in Atlanta at (404) 572-6870 or Edward Hummers in Washington at (202) 828-5760
We keep you posted on the latest FCC and Georgia regulations regarding lotteries and promotions. As you know, Georgia law and FCC regulations don't always agree, and it is necessary to know both since the FCC upholds Georgia laws and regulations. We keep you updated and informed on these important regulations. We can also answer specific questions regarding your individual promotions.
GAB maintains mailing lists of members throughout the state, in various categories. These mailing lists may be purchased from the GAB at a nominal fee for private or public mailings, in the form of mailing labels or mailing lists.
More and more member stations are utilizing
GAB's JOB BANK for new employees. We maintain full lists of professionals looking for jobs and stations who are looking for professionals. This service is exclusively for GAB members. If you are looking for a new employee, call or e-mail GAB and notify us of your opening. Then, each month, check the GAB's Job Bank mailing to see who has been listed. The list is updated each month.
The GAB, NCSA program provides stations with recorded public service announcements and news releases, which promote Georgia and Georgia products. This program also benefits the GAB financially and helps hold down your dues. For more information, contact the GAB's Lanny Finch or Allen Shaklan at (770) 395-7200.
The GAB continually monitors the rulings and regulatory changes of the Federal Communications Commission in an effort to keep you informed. When you have a question concerning an FCC rule or regulation, your answer is just a phone call away. Call us and, if we don't have the answer, we'll get it for you...quickly and efficiently...all for the cost of a phone call.
The GAB presents periodic sales clinics. Often these are held at different locations throughout the state to make them convenient for all stations. These clinics feature top sales speakers from around the nation, such as Maurie Webster, George Clover, and Chris Lytle. All seminars are made available to the GAB members at a very nominal fee, so as to make them affordable to everyone.
